A Time to Pack, A Time to Blog

I've tried to sit down to write a post at least 4 times in the past few weeks. It seems as soon as I started typing, I'd feel that I should be doing something else on the gigantic to do list instead. Yesterday I decided keeping others up-to-date should be on that list; especially if it results in prayer from readers. The clock seems to be ticking double time and I know the next 9 days will fly by. We leave September 12th.

There are many things to do before we go; I promise I won't share them all. Please do pray for the packing process. Mainly for wisdom in determining what and how many medical supplies to take. Obviously we'd like to take as much as we can. We have some wish lists from Kijabe Hospital and a local hospital here, St. Mary's, has generously donated a truck load of supplies for us to choose from. The issue is the cost of getting the supplies on the plane. We are allowed 2 checked bags per person; any additional bags are $200 each. We've received many generous donations to use for the needs at the hospital and we want to be wise stewards in managing the funds. Pray we will know what to purchase, what to take, how much to spend on additional baggage, and how much money to reserve for contributing to the patient needs fund there. Many people have asked about the possibility of shipping the supplies instead of taking them on the plane. When I checked ups.com, the estimate for shipping three 50 lbs. packages was over $2,000 (compared to $600).

I hope to add another post or two before we leave to give some more information on our itinerary, but I need to sign off for now. We are so excited about this opportunity, just a little nervous about all we need to do before we go. We trust the Lord will direct us.

We are counting the days until you get here! The biggest problem with shipping anything is the customs - more than likely when it eventually made it here (months later) you may have to pay hundreds to thousands of dollars in customs duty to get it out and when you do you can bet a lot of what you sent would be gone. That is why we brought everything over with us - 17 checked bags. That doesn't count our 9 carry ons, two stroller and three car seats. And we didn't bring as much as other people do! We have some projects going on that we would love for you to be a part of when you get here - can't wait to show you what God is doing here!

enjoyed the service tonight. I kept crying long after I finished crushing your ribs at the end of the prayer time. More to follow I am sure. So excited. So proud of you. Can't wait to hear what God does in you, with you, through you.
